What drove FINE GROUP to join the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC)?
FINE began its journey with the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) in 2012 to benchmark our operations against the industry’s leading standards for sustainability and social compliance. RJC is recognised globally for setting the highest sustainability standards in the jewellery and watch industry, making it a natural choice for us. Our shared commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices has only deepened this relationship. Beyond the mandatory Code of Practices (COP), we have also been certified under the Chain of Custody (COC) standard, reflecting our dedication to integrity and transparency at every step.
Tell us how FINE GROUP was created? Where is FINE GROUP today?
FINE GROUP was founded in 1987 by my father, Mr. Premkumar Kothari, driven by his passion for creating exquisite and innovative jewellery. Over the last four decades, we have grown into a globally recognized manufacturer, renowned for our commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. Today, FINE is not just about jewellery; it’s about crafting a future where excellence meets responsibility. With sustainability as our guiding principle, we are constantly evolving, thriving on change, and embracing innovation to make a positive impact on the planet.
How do you implement responsible business practices into your daily operations?
At FINE, responsible business practices are embedded in every aspect of our operations, from procurement to operations, sales, and administration. We adhere to rigorous KYC requirements, ethical sourcing, fair labour practices, and a comprehensive supply chain policy. Our materials are ethically sourced, including recycled metals from certified sources, contributing to a circular economy. Our factory is fully powered by renewable energy, and we comply with ethical sourcing standards such as the Kimberley Process Certification and World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties. We also reduce our environmental footprint through energy-efficient devices, rainwater harvesting, and waste management initiatives.
Why is sustainability and transparency important for the future of the jewellery industry?
Sustainability and transparency are essential for the jewellery industry’s future. Consumer surveys consistently highlight that these factors significantly influence purchasing decisions. The industry already makes substantial contributions to sustainability and transparency, but these efforts must be communicated effectively to resonate with consumers. The push for sustainable and transparent practices is both a market demand and an industry responsibility, and embracing these values is critical to securing the industry’s future.
What is unique about FINE GROUP?
What sets FINE GROUP apart is our unwavering commitment to detail—both in the jewellery we create and in our approach to sustainable and transparent business practices. Our dedication goes beyond craftsmanship; it’s about making a positive impact on people and the planet.
Do you have any exciting projects or initiatives we should look out for?
We are pioneering a product passport jewellery traceability solution, making diamond and gemstone traceability the norm, not the exception. We also plan to release a sustainability report aligned with globally recognized standards this financial year. Our goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2027, a testament to our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. Additionally, we aim to plant 7,000–8,000 trees annually and expand our community support, impacting healthcare access for 5,000–6,000 people every year.
