Building trust in our sustainability standards

certification

Through independent third-party audit and certification, we ensure our members operate their business in a way that meets the requirements of RJC standards.

To support this purpose, the RJC assurance system implements the requirements outlined in the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems, which provides a globally recognised framework for effective and credible sustainability systems, with a focus on standard setting, assurance, monitoring evaluation and learning and claims.

Drawing from this code, the desired outcomes of the RJC assurance system include the accurate evaluation of member conformity, continuous improvement in the system’s effectiveness and efficiency, and enhanced accessibility and added value for RJC members.

The RJC Member Certification Handbook and associated appendices provide members with essential audit and certification requirements, instructions and guidance aimed at preparing them for an independent third-party RJC audit.

The RJC Certification Process Requirements for Certification Bodies and Auditors and associated appendices provide audit firms and their auditors with the requirements for conducting audits against the RJC standards and providing certification services to members.

transparent & accountable

Being transparent and accountable is critical to maintain the credibility of RJC standards

To maintain the credibility of our standards, we conduct regular reviews of our assurance systems, and operate an Assurance Committee, as part of our RJC Governance Framework. The role of the Assurance Committee is to oversee the ongoing evolution and maintenance of the RJC assurance system. The committee assists in the development of policies and procedures that relate to the certification of members and approval of independent third-party audit firms. The Committee is comprised of up to nine elected RJC member representatives with up to two external experts. For full details of the role and responsibility of the Assurance Committee, explore the RJC Governance Handbook.
